Interfaces

Powerful and proven interface solutions

cableScout® has an open database structure which enables it to implement interfaces to any number of systems very quickly. These interfaces guarantee the smooth implementation of cableScout® in an existing IT infrastructure.

GIS interface

Nearly all companies who have wide area or municipal networks are using GIS systems for correct positioning in the administration of structures, ducts and cabling. Consequently these interfaces are the most frequently requested and solutions are available for ESRI, Smallworld, Intergraph, Topobase and Bentley systems.

This interface imports buildings, duct and cable runs in GIS administered buildings into cableScout®. The GIS generally retains its main administrative role in the correct positioning of the objects (mainly buildings and trench runs) and cableScout takes over the administration of the entire inventory. A special editor informs the user about new or modified data sets in the GIS and navigates to the corresponding place in the network.

cableScout® is also able to obtain maps from all GIS platforms which supply WMS (WebMapServices). The maps are displayed directly in cableScout® via http calls. Different layers (objects) can be displayed separately or depending on zoom level. An infinite number of WMS such as orthophotos and grid maps can be incorporated and displayed.

As cableScout® uses the same spatial data type as Oracle, it is possible to display cableScout®-building, ducts and cable data in real time in the GIS. The huge benefit of this is that planned projects which contain objects exclusive to cableScout®, such as cables and micro-ducts can be directly visualised in the GIS. Other options include displaying cable loads or determining whether a FTTH home connection is already supplied with fibre.

Fibre monitoring interface

The company CFS GmbH distributes a fibre monitoring system based on lilix® reflectors which interacts with cableScout® via the interface. The system permits the permanent monitoring of networks at physical fibre level. This means that each fibre of a cable can be monitored in parallel and without any time loss. Here the OTDR operates in a wavelength range in which no usable signals are disturbed, which means that the monitored fibres can be fully connected. The sophisticated OTDR technology coupled with the reflectors can be used across a wide range of applications in the security and business sectors. These could include the surveillance of access areas, the detection of attempted eavesdropping and the position of a fibre break.

FTTX monitoring interface

Using the FTTx Monitoring System interface from our partner FOC GmbH cableScout® can perform an active commissioning and monitoring of the entire FTTX network to the ONT of the end customer, by receiving all alarm notifications from the OTDR system and triggering individual measurements for customer cables. cableScout® can even locate fibre breaks in PON infrastructures. During the commissioning process the measurement and analysis across splitter structures can be performed locally by central office. This means that the customer does not need to perform any separate measurements. If the customer registers a fault, the fault location can be immediately checked. This eliminates costs for unnecessary engineer deployments and increases customer satisfaction.

Cable monitoring interface:

cableScout® has interfaces to the leading EXFO, JDSU and Lancier systems. The function of cable monitoring systems (ONMS) is to permanently monitor long-haul fibre optic cables. This is done in the fibre optic sector through the constant measurement of the optical output and attenuation of a reference fibre. If a fault occurs in the network cableScout® receives an alarm and the system navigates automatically to the relevant position on the map. Using the precise coordinates the fault can be located very easily.

The route search function in cableScout® finds an alternative route relatively quickly in order to avoid SLA penalties.
