Fiber Monitoring Software: Critical Infrastructure Always in View – cableScout® MONITORING
Network outages are costly, jeopardize SLA commitments, and damage reputations. With cableScout® MONITORING, network operators monitor their critical fiber infrastructure continuously and automatically – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Events such as fiber breaks, increased attenuation values, or unauthorized manhole openings are detected in real time, interpreted, and displayed at the correct location on the map.
Continuous Monitoring of Critical Fiber Connections
cableScout® MONITORING is a web-based software system that accesses the cableScout® database directly – or can alternatively be operated in standalone mode. The cables, fibers, and network sections to be monitored are defined in the system and recorded with all relevant length values including slack loops. This enables fault location with very high accuracy.
Integration of OTDR Devices from Multiple Vendors
Via standardized interfaces, OTDR devices from leading vendors can be integrated – including Adtran ALM and Viavi OTU. Simultaneous use of devices from different vendors is also possible without issues. The system communicates either directly with individual devices or via the respective vendor’s management system.
Real-Time Alerts Across All Channels
When a fault is detected, alerts are triggered immediately via multiple channels simultaneously: directly in the software, by e-mail, by SMS, and as a push notification in the cableScout® MOBILE app. The service team receives all relevant information – the reporting OTDR device, the affected cable, geographic and schematic cable routes, and the precise location of the damage.
Reduced Downtime, Secure SLAs
Immediate and precise alerting enables service teams to react instantly and drive directly to the reported fault location – without time-consuming manual troubleshooting. This significantly reduces downtime, minimizes contractual penalties, and maximizes network availability. The software and its interfaces are quickly deployable and can be put into operation with minimal training effort.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What can cableScout® MONITORING detect?
cableScout® MONITORING detects and locates fiber breaks, cables with increased attenuation values, opened manholes or cabinets (intrusion detection), and other anomalies in the fiber network. All events are displayed with a timestamp, fault type, and geographically accurate position on the map.
Which OTDR devices are supported by cableScout® MONITORING?
cableScout® MONITORING can be connected to OTDR devices from various vendors via standardized interfaces, including Adtran ALM and Viavi OTU. Simultaneous operation of multiple devices from different vendors is also possible.
How accurate is fault location?
Since cableScout® MONITORING knows all cable lengths including slack loops at the start, end, and along the route, fault location is very precise. The measured OTDR value is converted to the actual geographic fault location – accounting for all cable segments.
Can cableScout® MONITORING be operated without a cableScout® base license?
Yes. cableScout® MONITORING can be operated in standalone mode. However, for maximum functionality – particularly for precise fault location and use of complete network data – use in combination with cableScout® is recommended.
